Jack Whyte (Author of The Skystone)

I especially enjoyed the characterization of the elder Bruce! This is the story of one man's resistance, and the bravery of a country that would not yield. Robert brags about his sexual conquests. When she died after childbirth Rob remained absent from King Edward's side. It feel's like a very long prologue. What happens after that, you will have to look for another book for those chapters in history. But Longshanks's increasing treachery and his brutal attempts to annexe Scotland see Robert turning renegade and returning to his home country. I must look into the inheritance patterns of the Highlanders.

Resistance by Whyte, Jack, author

This is the second book in a trilogy about Scottish heroes. The tacit implication is that Whyte's version of history is the true story that has become distorted over time to become the legend and stories of magic that we know today. This is contemporary to William Wallace. Some of the sub themes in the novel include his relationship with his first wife. I am so disappointed as I have been waiting for this book for ages and now I have it, I very much doubt that I will read to the end! Recommended for all who love historical fiction writ superbly.

Jack Whyte: Resistance (ePUB)

His saving grace are the words his grandfather t I've always been interested in historical fiction novels and so I was glad to pick this book up. Robert learned much from his grandfather concerning politics and the feudalism of certain Scotsmen to the English king. At the same time, he challenges conventional wisdom and politically correctness. As a history book this book is great, it covers a large period of Robert the Bruce's life, setting the scene for his future troubles with the English monarchs. His light uses of descriptive text is succinct and pithy. It does portray very well the mindset of King Edward the first and what a conniving, manipulating, beast of a man I enjoyed this book however I felt it was lacking on content. Born and raised in Scotland, Whyte has been living in Canada since 1967.

The tacit implication is that Whyte's version of history is the true story that has become distorted over time to become the legend and stories of magic that we know today. It's a good book, very enjoyable but it doesn't feel like a novel. The Renegade is a blazing, brilliant, new historical adventure in Jack Whyte's Guardians series. The Battle of Bannockburn lies ahead and a legend is born. Includes biography, bibliography, book excerpts, radio interview transcripts, and an active fan forum. I've always been interested in historical fiction novels and so I was glad to pick this book up. Born to a divided kingdom.

I could imagine it all in modern dress quite easily somehow, including that Gwendolyn person at Edward's court - who just seems terribly unlikely. The writing is very good and took me into the time. The historical research is as always impeccable but the way he has set it down is mind numbing!! Full of fascinating information and a well told tale. Whyte then flashes back 13 years to a 10 yr old Bruce and the story really begins and tells us how he arrived at that camp. The Saxon Shore and the two parts of The Sorcerer became the first sub-series, Arthur the Hero; Clothar the Frank and The Eagle became the second sub-series, Arthur the King; The Eagles' Brood and Uther became the third sub-series, Arthur the Son; and The Skystone and The Singing Sword became the fourth and final sub-series, Arthur the Dynast. What happens after that, you While familiar with his name, I did not really know any of the history of Robert the Bruce.

But Longshanks's increasing treachery and his brutal attempts to annexe Scotland see Robert turning renegade and returning to his home country. I am looking forward to reading the next two books in the Guardian series. The writing is very good and took me into the time. The British editions thus came close to reversing the internal chronological and publication orders of the series. This was accomplished through certain life experiences and the effect of the sound advice of others, most particularly his grandfather and great uncle. These books are not Brave Heart a good movie though historically muddy. And the plot, was as tantalizing as it was poli Just Finished it.

Robert the Bruce is a very likeable character. Twelve-year-old Robert Bruce, heir to the great House of Bruce, comes of age amid the bitter rivalry of Scotland's most powerful nobles to claim the vacant throne. It shows his development and his close affiliation with the English nobility. Robert learned much from his grandfather concerning politics and the feudalism of certain Scotsmen to the English king. Born to a divided kingdom. It seems to be all political intrigue and very little action!! Born and raised in Scotland, Whyte has been living in Canada since 1967. Though near the end as Edward becomes more autocrat This was a wonderful book.

But splintering relations between England and Scotland drag the Bruces back into the fray, and Robert, at the tender age of twenty-one, is forced to leave his youth behind and step into a new, serious role of responsibility as an earl and as a husband. It all ends well when she reveals who she is. This series of historical novels presents the tale of King Arthur set against the backdrop of Roman Britain. After the feckless Scottish king John Balliol's reign, Edward seizes control of Scotland. At the end of this volume, Robert the Bruce, Earl of Carrick has realized his error in trusting King Edward and has joined with William Wallace to strengthen Scotland. It does portray very well the mindset of King Edward the first and what a conniving, manipulating, beast of a man he was. These two books bring each mans story and the eventuality of each ones convictions on their beloved Scotland.

Resistance (Bravehearts Chronicles, book 2) by Jack Whyte

This series of historical novels presents the tale of King Arthur set against the backdrop of Roman Britain. Twelve-year-old Robert Bruce, heir to the great House of Bruce, comes of age amid the bitter rivalry of Scotland's most powerful nobles to claim the vacant throne. I dont know what all the critical comments are about, really. It ends when Robert's eyes were opened and he realized his betrayal and how badly he was used. It pains me to have to write this as I am a huge fan of Jack Whyte's work but this book I have found extremely boring! Rob sees for himself the brutal mistreatment of his people by English soldiers, so this decides him to fight for the people; he will be King Edward's creature no longer. The Forest Laird was also published under the title of Rebel: Bravehearts Chronicles.
