But because of the importance of the subject matter and the succinct way Bongino expresses key points, I give it 4 stars. On top of that, with international tensions reaching a boiling point, it's harder than ever to determine friend from foe. Yet the President of the United States is in very real danger if the Secret Service doesn't change course soon and evolve with the rapidly changing threat environment. Protecting the President provides not only a rare insider glimpse of what the Secret Service does, but explores the challenges facing the agents today. The Vero Beach Beach Book Center :: Daniel Bongino presents Protecting The President

protecting the president an inside account of the troubled secret service in an era of evolving threats

If you are into politics, this book is for you! Eventually terrorist planners will find a way to acquire the technology, weapons, explosives, and know-how to make an attempt on the life of the President. While he may have been hoping that repeating the same suggestions and observations many times over will help them sink in if any actual decision-makers are reading, sometimes less is more. This book got great reviews but I struggled. It was a great first chapter and held promise for the rest of the book. In an age of hyper-partisan politics, emotions are high and threats are everywhere. On top of that, with international tensions reaching a boiling point, it's harder than ever to determine friend from foe. Not only is the agency facing scandals from within, low morale, and an ever-present media looking to capitalize on the slightest misstep, the agency also has to contend with highly motivated bad guys who are already working on technologically advanced methodologies and are constantly striving to formulate the logistics of an attack on the White House.

The meandering, clause-laden sentences in this book made me feel like I was wading through mud to get to the points Bongino was trying to make. The only question is What are we going to do about it? Being a Secret Service agent is one of the most treacherous jobs in the world and never more so than in today's highly polarized America. This book goes is above being a gossip insider piece. Crazies seem to be a dime a dozen, and on top of that, international tensions have reached a boiling point. In an age of hyper-partisan politics, emotions are high and threats are everywhere. I also listen to Dan Bongino's Podcasts which are a good source for current events especially with what is happening at this time. I really enjoyed this book, Dan does a fascinating job really breaking down why and how government fails its citizenry.

protecting the president an inside account of the troubled secret service in an era of evolving threats

Dan Bongino is a former Secret Service Agent who has made two bids to run for national office. Dan Bongino is a class act, a rarity among those who run for Congress. . He speaks about the bureaucracy that caused the issues with the fast and the furious scandal, Benghazi, even to the white house fence jumper Joseph Caputo. Anyone interested in politics, interested in possibly running for a political office, anyone interested in improving their leadership styles and effectiveness and anyone who votes! Excellent book explaining what the Secret Service does. Some things I had always assumed and some things took me by surprise. Whether this is due to his closer ties to the subject matter, having a better ghost writer, or having a better editor or all three , I don't know.

Coincidentally, I read this book and the author's first book at the same time. Eventually terrorist planners will find a way to acquire the technology, weapons, explosives, and know-how to make an attempt on the life of the President. As a 2x candidate for Congress House and Senate , he's intimately familiar with party politics. As a contributor on major news networks, he's seen the media in action. But because of the importance of the subject matter and the succinct way Bongino expresses key points, I give it 4 stars. Although not a true exposé of the Secret Service, it does a good job of describing the sorts of threats the Secret Service is charged with meeting, as well as the difficulties in meeting those threats, ending with offering proposed solutions. Bongino is a smart guy, but he's not always great writer and his books would benefit from a better editor.
